SADLY MISSED, FONDLY REMEMBERED
"It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live."~ Marcus Aurelius

Stephen Russell
What can be said about Mr. Russell that hasn't already been said? Hundreds came to his funeral, pouring out tributes to this kind-hearted, generous, creative man. I can still see him sitting at his desk, throwing back his head and laughing his big, booming laugh. Mr. Russell was a very accepting, nonjudgemental person, setting an excellent example for the rest of us. He made me feel special, and helped me to believe in myself and do my best. If you were lucky enough to have him for a teacher, I'm sure you'll agree that, as far as teachers go, Stephen Russell was one of the best.
BYRON PAULSON
I was shocked to learn about Byron's death last year. He was one of the people I was looking forward to catching up with at the reunion. Sadly, he left behind a wife and young family. I remember Byron from our years together at Quigley. He was a kind person with a good sense of humor and a good athlete, too. In spite of always being quite popular, Byron took the time to chat with me at school. Even as an adult he took an interest in my life, and that touched me. I appreciated his sincerity and the zest he had for life.

And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
"Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of."
~Benjamin Franklin
DAWN CHWARTACKI
Another beautiful life cut short was Dawn Chwartacki, who attended HRJSS for grades 8 and 9 but moved to Tumbler Ridge by the time I came to school in grade 10. I knew Dawn as a fellow competitor in the "May Queen" competition many years ago. She was a sweet girl.
RON PELLAND
I am also sorry to say that Ron Pelland has passed away. Although I didn't know Ron very well, he seemed to me someone who knew how to enjoy life and seize the day.
"Time is but the stream I go a-fishin in. I drink at it, but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains."
~Henry David Thoreau
